If you are mailing a Christmas gift to a relative, the last thing you want to happen is to purchase an expensive gift that someone really wants and have it arrive damaged. To prevent this from happening to you, below are two ways you can ship the Christmas gift to your relative.
Shipping Boxes
Packing the item you are sending is the most important thing you can do. How you do this depends on what you are mailing. For example, for many items you can simply use a shipping box. If you choose this, do not put the item in a box that is much too large for it. If you shake the box and the item moves around, it is too large. You can put stuffing in the box to secure the item, but too much stuffing may cause the box to burst before it gets to your relative.
Make sure you know the maximum weight the box can handle and do not go over this weight. If you are mailing multiple items in one box, wrap each one separately with bubble wrap and then tape the bubble wrap to secure it.
When you are finished packing the box make sure it is fully reinforced. Put take along all seams on the container and use tape that is made for packing so it will hold up while in transit. For example, do not use standard masking tape as this will likely not keep the box secure.
Containers
You can choose to ship the item in a container, which is much stronger than a standard shipping box. These containers are made with a durable plastic and close securely so you know they will not come open during transit.
For example, if you are sending your relative a poster, there are containers that are in the right shape where you can roll up the poster, put it in the container, and put a secure cap on the end of the container to secure the poster.
